Surrounded by the green hills of the Cortona valley lies the Country farmhouse Il Castello. The property is located such that it provides the perfect place to relax in peace and tranquility. The farm house has been completely restored and was opened in January 2004. The location and unspoilt views of the valley below are exceptional and are bathed from early morning to evening in sunshine. Both, its position, 500 m above sea-level and the fresh air contribute to warm and dry summers experienced here.

The beautiful swimming pool is located at the top of the garden from where one has a magnificent view over the entire valley which is just one of the particular features of Il Castello. The house can be let as a whole or one of the 3 apartments can be let depending on your group size. The nearest village is Mercatale which is 3 Km away where there a is supermarket, butcher and baker. Cortona is approximately 15 Km which is home to some wonderful traditional shops selling a selection of shoes, clothes, ceramics and wine, not to mention the excellent restaurants.
The Apartments within the house:
"La Valle" is on the ground floor and derives its name from the breathtaking panoramic view of the entire valley and the Niccone river. The apartment has a private entrance, two double bed rooms, living room (with sofa bed), fireplace, kitchenette and bathroom. The 70 mq² apartment can accommodate 4 to 6 persons comfortably and during the renovation special attention was given to the materials thus maintaining the ancient design which is typical of the region.
"Il Monte" is on the upper story of the property and sleeps 4+1 persons. From the windows of the 70 m² apartment one has an unobstructed view of the big castle which dominates the landscape here. The apartment features two double bed rooms or beds for 4 persons. The other rooms within the apartment include a living room (with kitchenette, fireplace and single sofa bed) and a bathroom with shower.
La Loggia (55 m²) is an apartment based on the first floor and derives its name from the small but beautiful terrace at the entrance of the apartment. The apartment sleeps 4 persons and from the terrace there is a magnificent view of the castle which highlights the view. Apartment Loggia has a living room (with double sofa bed) double bed room, fireplace, kitchenette and bathroom with shower.
The castle which is visable from each of the apartments and the garden of the property already existed in the 10th century and belonged to the Marquises Monte Santa Maria Tiberina. The first record relating to the castle is from the 10th century in the form of the will of Marquis Colle e Monte Santa Maria. The next known record is in the year 1325 and documents the handover of the castle to the Degli Oddi of Perugia by the conqueror Visconti . In 1371 according to the project of Ranieri Casali, knight of Rodi, the castle was rebuilt by the Casali, lords of Cortona.
The central position of Il Castello means that you are within easy and comfortable reach of the major cultural towns and cities as well as the many natural areas of beauty in Tuscany and Umbria. After your day out guests can relax in the houses large swimming pool (7.5 x 14 m) and enjoy the breathtaking natural surroundings. The owner has a small apartment at the opposite end of the property and will ensure your complete privacy. |

All holiday home prices are in € per week for the number of people stated in bold unless otherwise stated in € per day. The second number illustrated next to the number of persons who can stay represents the number of additional persons the property can cater for. Sofa beds are provided for additional persons unless it is otherwise stated that additional beds can be made available.
Accommodation weeks usually run from Saturday to Saturday and include linen, water, electricity, and gas unless otherwise stated. The heating costs and housekeeping fees are paid directly to the landlord and are dependent on usage. **Please be aware heating costs are expensive in Italy**.
Almost all landlords require a security deposit between 100 € and 250 € and for some of the more exclusive properties the deposit can be as much as 1000 €. The full balance of the deposit will be returned at the end of stay provided that the property is in the same condition and that are no damaged or broken items. All linens should be returned in the same number and unsoiled on departure. Terre Vitae reserve the right to request the balance due for any items that have been damaged and that have not been disclosed to the caretaker as a part of the contract signed prior to departure.
Please note that note that welcome packs are not provided by the owners on arrival and that some properties do not provide wine glasses.
There are sometimes different payment methods for groups, which we would be more than willing to discuss with you on request. |
